You will see that the dust will immediately be removed and the pile of the fabric will be as good as new.
Under no circumstances should you rub a velvet fabric. Even if you need to remove a stain, do not rub it. Dampen a soft cloth with water and dab it locally on the stain.
Leather (i.e. the cloths we use to dry the car) is also an ideal choice for cleaning velvet.
